I just read this story about a little girl with two Golden Retrievers and it made me cry!

Cohen and Fisher--my two biggest heros!

When i was born Cohen was 4 years old. My parents had got him when he was 6 weeks old. I did everything with him from drinking my bottles on him while i was a baby and using him to learn to walk. He was truly my best friend. When I was 2 years old my parents saved another Golden named Fisher--he was also 2. He wasn't a good dog at the start but he quickly adjusted and became one of the best dogs ever. Cohen and he were inseparable. Every year the two dogs and I would have matching costumes for Halloween and we would go trick-or-treating together. One year we were all clowns, and another year I was an A&W waitress and they were giant hot dogs. I grew up with two amazing dogs and wouldn't change that for anything in the world. Once I got older I would take them rollerblading, swimming, and play with them for hours. We spent most of the days together. I always knew I could count on them to protect me, like the one time Fisher broke through the bay window to protect the house from a man that was trying to break in. After that, no matter what happened I always felt safe when I was with them. I grew up with Cohen and Fisher. Right before my tenth Christmas Cohen passed away at the age of 14. 5 weeks later we had to put Fisher down. I didn't know what to do anymore. I never felt safe the same way I did when I was with them. For months I was depressed and didn't know what to do, until one day I came home to see a 2 month old Golden sitting next to my mom and dad on the couch. She was mine--not a family pet like Cohen and Fisher--she was all mine. I named her Gidget and She is now 7 years old and very happy with her little brother Elvis who is a yellow lab / Golden. I guess Goldens just run in the family!

  1. This story reminds me of our old dog, Beau. He was a Malamute Husky and I felt very safe with him.
